This morning I dumped some music onto the PS3 for the first time and saw the cool Gaia visualization. I watched it for a while, wondering what would happen as the globe spiraled and zoomed in.

Since my PS3 is connected to the web, I was kind of hoping that the visualization would show me where in the world people were playing the same track. The Folding@Home project have been doing this for ages:

I was thinking about how to go about doing this: possibly using Twitter, like they do on TwitterVision. Not ideal, as it would just add to the Foursquare spam and make your Twitter stream even more unusable. What would be even better is if last.fm added more specific location info to your profile. We could then get great visualizations of where similar kinds of music were being played, same artists or same track. At least then the PS3 Gaia thing would provide more than just eye-candy.
