Jet-lag / time zone weirdness still screws with my day. Waking up at 4AM every morning completely wide awake does not make for a great day. But with coffee and red bull we soldier on through.
Attended 3 panels during the day, Interactive beyond the screen and Emerging trends in mobile technology and Designing for irrational behavior. Nice spread of tech, marketing and design for the day, and also exposed me to an interesting spread of delegate attitudes. During the Designing for irrational behavior talk, loads and loads of people were getting up and leaving. Granted, the speakers weren’t blowing the crowd away with miraculous new tech, but I read the panel description, and they were covering the topic with some really interesting points. I can’t say that I would have retained as much composure as the panelists did.
What was cool was that 2 SA projects got mentioned – Project M during Designing for Irrational behavior and The Grid during the Emerging mobile trends talk. They asked if anyone had seen The Grid, and then if there was anyone from Africa in the room, but we were mobbed and I was on the floor so they never saw me waving my hand about like a loon.
I’ve also discovered that while the panels can be inspiring and thought-provoking, there is immense value to be gained from meeting and connecting with people.
And to crown off the day, after 8 years of working together on various books and insulting each other over MSN and email, I got to meet the much vaunted Chris Mills – Opera geek and metal drummer.
